China Urumqi - Urumqi fog shrouded the airport, tens of thousands of passengers stranded

中国乌鲁木齐-大雾笼罩乌鲁木齐机场,数万乘客滞留。URUMQI - Heavy fog shrouded Urumqi, capital of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomousregion, Saturday, and stranded thousands of passengers at the city's airport.
The 13-hour-long fog that started at about 4 am had disrupted altogether 258 inbound andoutbound flights, causing delays and cancellations, airport authorities said.
Approximately 7,000 passengers had been stranded at the airport.
The airport had resumed normal operation by late afternoon, but the downtown area in Urumqiwas still blanketed by thick fog that reduced visibility to only 50 meters.
Urumqi's weather bureau confirmed the city has had more foggy days than normal this month,but did not give exact details.
