TAIYUAN - The majority of the 141 primary school students who fell ill after eating at a school inNorth China's Shanxi province have been discharged from local hospitals, local authorities saidTuesday.
One hundred and five pupils have recovered after receiving treatment, while another 36children remain hospitalized, said an official who is investigating the case.
The official added that none of the hospitalized children are in serious condition.
The students experienced stomachaches and nausea after eating at the Xinxiao BilingualExperimental School in the province's capital of Taiyuan on Monday. Initial tests showed thecause to be a food-borne gastrointestinal infection.
Local health authorities have promised to launch a thorough inspection of all of the schoolcanteens in the Xinghualing District, where the school is located.
